JAM LIFE

One of the privileges of living in Richmond,BC is having fruit trees in the backyards. My parents’ house has an apple tree and a grape vine. Every year we harvest delicious organic apples without having to do much to cultivate the tree. It just grows on its own consistently year after year. The only problem is that we have to consume these fruits in a timely way so they don’t go to waste. Usually for 2 months straight every year our primary fruit diet would be apples, delicious apples! Mum has learned to make preserve and cider over the years so we can enjoy the harvest in a longer span of time. As we have an apple trees in our backyard, some of our family friends have other fruit trees in theirs such as plum and figs. These fruits are perfect for making jam, therefore mum has been busy picking fruits and making jam! Back when I used to own a coffee shop, Mum’s jam was one of the top seller. We used it in the pastry made in house and also sold it as merch. People loved it. I still get former customers asking for jam when I ran into them on the street. I closed the coffee shop 2 years ago and mum has also been taking a hiatus from jam making since. This is the first year she’s back to ajam making and it is still as good as ever!
